We will be having a pancake supper here at Peoples on Tuesday, February 13, which is the date of Shrove Tuesday (aka Pancake Day) this year.
Many church traditions still use Latin names, so here is your Fun Latin Fact for the day: The word “shrove” comes from a Latin root word meaning “to forgive,” because Shrove Tuesday, the last day before Lent begins, was traditionally a day when Christians would go to confession.
Because Shrove Tuesday is the last day before Lent, which has traditionally been a season of fasting, it was also the day to eat up eggs and butter, which grew into the tradition of marking the day with pancakes, blintzes, paczkis, crepes, etc.
Join us on Tuesday, February 13 in Fellowship Hall. We will be serving pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, and fruit between 5 and 7 pm. Freewill offerings are welcome. Volunteers to help clean up after the event are also welcome (there will be a signup sheet in Fellowship Hall).
